QUESTION 3- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

'Masked' is a niche market film which represents underrepresented themes, i.e. the primary character being a young, black female whom is being represented through her mise-en-scene to be within the corporal world.
However, the film 'Masked' is also representing some over-representated themes too, for example: the primary character is being displayed with a 'damsel in distress' characteristic, along with her being unaware of it.

Due to these factors, 'Masked' should have a distribution company that is similar to Dimension Films, the distribution company which distributed the film which inspired 'Masked', 'Scream'.
"Dimension Films is an American film production company and independent film distributor formerly owned by The Walt Disney Studios and now owned by The Weinstein Company." .

'Scream' is a 1996 film with an opening scene of a female damsel in distress character being stalked by a maniac killer within her own home.
'Masked' is a 2017 film with a female character unaware of being in any danger being stalked within a public environment.

'Scream' made $173,046,663 in box-office through being distributed by Dimension Films, as 'Masked' is a similar film with modern themes, (for example: technological safety) Dimension Films would be a good fit for this film.
As well as distributing the film itself, Dimension Films has a good reputation and can therefore get viewers purely from being the institution to distribute the film.

Marketing strategies can be taken for 'Masked', i.e. apps, website and social media (i.e. the stalker character can send tweets and Facebook updates), which are not only cheap but effective.

However, any distribution institution can achieve this, other distribution institutions, i.e Lionsgate "An American, Canadian-domiciled entertainment & media company."

Lionsgate focuses on foreign and independent films, for example the Saw movies. Although 'Masked' is not an American psychological horror film it is a film that has a few of the same qualities, i.e. stalking, suspense and representation of the underrepresented ('Masked' stars a successful looking woman, and 'Saw' targets the successful).
As Lionsgate is an independent film distributer, 'Masked 'would be well suited as it is a niche film type with a good, and different plot.

Again, other distribution institutes such as Universal Studios "an American film studio owned by Comcast through the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group division of its wholly owned subsidiary NBCUniversal."

Universal Studios is a multi national film distributer, meaning that the niche theme of 'Masked' could be widely spread making, potentially making it a very successful film.

Universal is different from the other institutions as it is a more international and less independent film distributer, it does have a large range of film types, i.e Twister and Lorax. Therefore, 'Masked' would fit well as it is a horror among all the other genres within their film profile.

Lastly, a distribution institution that is a worldwide and generally sticks to a certain criteria, however at the same time tries to represent all social groups and any underrepresented groups. Disney have a wide range of film types in their profile, such as: 'Lion King' and 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.'
Although Disney would be a good and beneficial distributer, 'Masked' is not a film that could be placed in the PG or U category and therefore Disney would have issues with the film as they, as a majority of their films keep them PG and under, as they would aim to target everyone, as they have a vast marketing resources (i.e. shops, channels, etc) and toys, tv shows, etc are more popular amongst younger ages.

Overall, 'Masked' should be distributed by an institution like  Dimension Films, purely as the film matches one of their highly successful films which followed on to have multiple sequels, and the chain of movies are still widely popular in todays society, as the 'Scream' 2, 3 and 4 have been public on Netflix (Referenced from https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/other/are-the-scream-movies-on-netflix/ )  for many years for the public to view.

As 'Masked' is similar in plot to the 'Scream' plots, but a modern version the public response should be mainly positive and with the distribution from an institution like Dimension Films the film will be highly successful.
