QUESTION 6- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

"WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS PROJECT?"

Firstly, during the process of constructing our film Masked, we used YouTube and the internet in general to research movies and deconstruct them (see in earlier posts).

I chose 3 horror films to research and deconstruct and from this, Nav and I were able to create an idea for our film opening and therefore have a reference for what our background of film should be, i.e. how we want to film, edit and overall have the "feel" for the film.

During the filming process we used a DSLR 500D Cannon camera and a few things I learnt from using this outside of a school situation is:
  • once the SD card has all of its clips imported from the card to the computer, doesn't actually mean that the clips are deleted from the SD card: We eventually understood that we had to empty the trash while the SD card is inserted for it to be deleted off of the card.

  • The DSLR won't capture the same way that we imagined in our head. For example, the shot where we used an iPhone to take a photo of the primary character:

Instead of being shot and turning out like what is shown in our story board, it turned out like this:

Other than the actual camera itself, Nav and I also discovered new ways of editing during this process.
We used the Adobe Premiere Pro editing software to edit our film.

From editing our film "Masked" versus editing our film "Preliminary Inception" Nav and I noticed new things:

  • Making copies of each session of editing is useful in terms of testing ideas out and in dangers of one version not saving/being deleted

  • Changing the volume of sounds will make transitions and and the entire film sound smoother and potentially allow certain scenes to be saturated and further be more effective towards the audience

  • The use of colour differences can allow a shot to be of higher quality and change the lack of or over exposed shots taken
